Pastoral Support

Kents Hill Infant Academy

At Kents Hill Infant Academy, our commitment to pastoral support is central to fostering a nurturing learning environment, to support every child to be ready to learn. We believe every child deserves a strong support framework to thrive academically and socially. Our dedicated learning mentor works collaboratively with families to ensure each child’s well-being is prioritized, enabling them to navigate challenges with confidence.

Through personalized support and comprehensive resources, we aim to empower our students, helping them develop self-regulation and strong interpersonal skills. We understand that supporting mental health is just as important as academic success, and we strive to create a safe space where every child feels valued and understood.

Our Pastoral Support

We have a full time experienced learning mentor who is on hand to support both our children and families. Mrs Hamblin is a mother of four who has lived all over the world, giving her a wealth of life experience that she uses to support our KHIA families. Mrs Hamblin is a trained youth mental health first aider, bereavement specialist and is qualified to deliver therapeutic interventions for children that may need them. She works closely with our school counsellors and outside agencies to ensure that our children get the right help at the right time. She also supports the SENCo and is part of the inclusion team, making any relevant referrals.

Children’s quotes on our learning mentor:

I like Mrs Hamblin because she plays with me and helps me when I get cross!

Mrs Hamblin is kind and caring and always helps you if you have a problem.

Mrs Hamblin always checks in on me to see if I am okay.

Mrs Hamblin is accessible to all parents via Class Dojo our messaging app if our families need to access to her support at any time. In addition, she is on the playground at playtimes and lunchtimes to support those who may need support with their social and emotional skills.

Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Support

At Kents Hill Infant Academy we are passionate about supporting children to support their own mental health and wellbeing. Through the curriculum we teach our children how to be kind friends, that all emotions are okay, and give them strategies to manage their feelings and mental health.

From time to time, children may struggle with this and need extra intervention outside the taught curriculum. We have a graduated approach to this, facilitated by our full time learning mentor through our KHIA SEMH menu of support. Click below for further details.
